Classroom Routines

Parent/Teacher Relationships

I will communicate with you throughout the school year through monthly newsletters, three formal report cards, and two interim reports. Some of you have not had a introduction to Kindergarten interview yet.  I will be contacting you to set up a time.
I encourage you to contact me if you have any questions, concerns or would just like to discuss your child's progress. Please check your child's backpack on a daily basis for their ziploc "take-home" bag. It may contain important notices. Return the ziploc bag to school everyday.

Class Website / Blog

Our class website / blog is a place where you can read the class newsletters and find out about and see pictures of the exciting things we are learning. Archives of postings are listed on the right. Please visit mrskhansclassnews.blogspot.ca and visit often! We will be sending home permission requests to publish your child's photo on this website and the school's website soon. The James Ardiel's school website is located at surreyschools.ca/schools/jamesardiel

Parent Participation

Throughout the school year there will be special school and classroom activities and celebrations. I encourage you to attend these functions when possible and to support them by sending necessary supplies or treats. Your support of school activities makes your child feel important and sends the message that you value school! I welcome parents coming in to help out on a regular or a one time basis. Please let me know if you are interested.

Arrival and Dismissal

It is VERY important to arrive at school on time. As a rule, try to be at school at least 5 minutes early when dropping off or picking up your child. Please wait outside the Kindergarten hall doors with your child and help them line up with their classmates. If you are the doors are shut, that means you are late. Please go to the office to pick up a ticket and enter the classroom through the school.

At dismissal time I will not let the children leave until I see who they are going home with. Please be consistent with who picks up your child, and if someone different is going to be responsible for your child please send me a note and let your child know. If you are late picking up your child, they will be taken to the office to wait. If you know ahead of time that you are going to be late, please phone the office and let us know.

School Attendance

Your child's regular and prompt attendance at school is important to their success.
Most Kindergarten learning activities are group oriented and involve interaction with peers. It is next to impossible to make up work at home. Please try to avoid going on long term vacations during school time. If your child is going to be absent due to an illness, please phone the office and let them know. If you know in advance that your child is going to be absent, let me know as soon as possible.

Gym and Library

Gym days are on Thursday and Fridays.
Library day is on Tuesdays, your child may keep their library books in their backpacks or at home and bring them in every Tuesday.

Snack and Lunch

Please send enough food in your child's backpack so they can eat for one snack time and one lunch time. Snack times will usually be after recess at 10:45 (recess 10:30). Lunch time will be after lunch recess at 12:45. Please send only nutritious food and no junk food.
If you are on the lunch program, please look out for renewal notices at the end of every month.

Supplies

Thank you to those parents who bought school supplies for your child. They will be kept in the classroom and shared with the whole class. You will receive any leftover supplies at the end of the year.

Birthdays

Birthdays will be recognized in the classroom in a simple way. You are welcome to send a treat for the class to share, just let me know in advance. Please do not send cake. Cupcakes, cookies, or bars are best because they are easy to serve.

Money

On occasion it will be necessary for your child to bring money to school. Always send money in a sealed envelope or baggie with the following information:
- your child's name -the amount of money
- what the money is for - my name

I am looking forward to a great year working with you and your child! Remember, if you have any concerns, questions, or issues you would like to discuss, please feel free to contact me. You can talk to me before or after school, phone the school at 604-588-3021, or email me anytime at teachermrskhan@gmail.com

Sincerely,
Mrs. Khan
