Elf Hunt, Not a Box Projects, and Gingerbread Houses!

Wow, this Friday was a busy day!  Thank you to Brooke's mom who helped us get through two huge events!

All in one day, we went on an elf hunt, presented our Not a Box projects, and decorated gingerbread houses.

First off the elf hunt!  Mr. Sahota and the James Ardiel leadership team organized our kindergartners to help find Sparkle the elf. 

 We went on a hunt through the school looking for clues as to where Sparkle the Elf could be.

We went to the gym.

We went to the office.

We went to the library too.

We were suprised to find that Sparkle the Elf was hiding in our classroom!

After handing out candy canes Sparkle and her helpers went off on their way.

Not a Box Family Homework Project

I was just amazed at the amount of effort and participation our class showed with our first Family Homework Project, Not a Box.  Even though it was an optional activity we had fourteen projects that we displayed in the library for everyone to see.  Here's a slideshow of all the projects.

Decorating Gingerbread Houses 

Our buddies helped us decorate the gingerbread houses that Ms. Howard's mom, Jakob's mom, and Cali-Jean's grandma helped build the day before.  Thanks again for all of your help and with the variety of candy that was donated to decorate them. I wish I was able to take pictures of each of them seperately, but they were so fragile, I was afraid of them falling apart before they could be sent home.  I hope you enjoyed them this weekend!

  

Kindergarten Multicultural Luncheon

Wow what a wonderful lunch we had on Friday!  Thank you to all the families who shared dishes from their cultures.  We had such a variety of food from a total of seventeen different countries!  As well, thank you to Mrs. Petersson for organizing another Kindergarten family event!

We started off the luncheon by parading around the gym to the song "This Land is Your Land".

Then we ate and had fun!
It was so nice to hear conversations between families reconnecting with old friends and making new friends.

We'll definitely be doing something like this again in the spring!

Visiting Our Grandfriends

So far we have had two visits with our Grandfriends to make art.  I am so glad that we have been given the opportunity to make connections with these wonderful people.  At first we all were a little nervous, but the second visit was so much more relaxed.  A few of the Kindies have already developed special bonds with some of the Grandfriends.  We will try to have them work with the same people every time we visit.

Owls!

In November we learned about Owls. We started our unit by doing some research on owls and learned that we can learn about owls using four senses (we didn't want to taste owls!). 

 We had fun looking at pictures of owls, feeling owl feathers and listening to owls fly, hoot, and screech.

At the end of our unit we invited Gail from Monika's Bird Sanctuary.  She brought us two owls with her, Wally and Barny.  It was such an exciting presentation!

Assembly 2012

  On Thursday we took part in our yearly Remembrance Day assembly.  I was amazed at how respectful and thoughtful our Kindergartners were throughout all the presentations.






As well, we did such a good job performing two songs for the school: Make Peace and All Join Hands.  You can watch the video of both performances below.
