Grandfriends - May Visit

Our May visit to see our grandfriends was so much fun! During our visit, we did crafts, shared stories, and even sang some songs. We were excited to tell them about the caterpillars we have been observing in our classroom. With all the commotion about caterpillars and butterflies, it was obvious what our craft should be.... stained glass butterflies!

Singing while we work

Using lots of different colours!

Paper, paper, everywhere! Art can be messy, but it sure is fun!

Making sure there are no white spaces on his butterfly

We had fun listening to the stories our grandfriends told us - this grandfriend was an Air Canada pilot!

Ta-da! Finished stained glass butterfly.

Capacity

Exploring capacity was fun, but messy!

Pouring water from one container to another.
"How can you figure out which is the biggest? Show me how you know that is the smallest."

Scooping beans.
"How many scoops does it take?"

They were amazed when they discovered that a shorter container can actually hold more than a taller container! How? "That one is fatter." "This one is skinnier." Great problem solving division 14!

Weight

We used balances to find objects that weighed more than, less than, or equal to other objects!

"The transformer blocks weigh more than the little blocks."

"They're the same!"

Deciding which objects to compare next.

Length and Height

We've been exploring with different types of measurement - length, weight, capacity. It has been fun building and searching for objects to compare with our friends.

Length

Short, tall, short, tall with crafts!

Long, short, short, long, short, short pattern

Building long, short, long, short patterns with links

"How many caterpillars long is a ....?"
Reading BIG books about measurement!

First Blog Post . . . Finally!

Hello Division 14!

It has been a long time coming, but here it is... Ms. Pellizzari's first blog post!

We've been busy learning, playing and exploring - so it is finally time to share some of our adventures with our followers.

May has been an exciting month with Mother's day, long weekends, Grandfriends, planting Marigolds and beans, getting caterpillars and watching them change into chrysalises and, as of today, into BUTTERFLIES! Stay tuned for pictures, videos and stories.

Division 14 has Their Own Blogs Now

Thanks to our buddies, we have now moved into every student in our class having their own blog in addition to this class blog.  Please read what your child has been up to from their perspective. Visit this link http://www.kidblog.org/mrskhansclass-4 and enter the password abc to read all the posts.

Please comment on your child or other students in the class' posts, we would love to see what you think.

Here are some photos of our grade 5 buddies helping us write about the art show.

On another note, this will be my last post on this class blog for the rest of the year as Ms. Pellizzari will be teaching your child 5 days a week now.  I have moved in to the teacher librarian position four days a week in addition to my Vice Principal role, and Ms. Mansfield will be now teaching Learning Support on Thursdays. I have enjoyed working with your child immensly.

I can truly say, with your support and how keen your child was in trying out innovating learning through technology, this was the best year of teaching I have had!  I look forward to seeing you out and about and teaching your child in the library.  Please come and see me if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Khan
